1. What Is Visa Approval Letter (Val)?
Visa Approval Letter or VAL is an official signed and stamped document issued by the Department of Immigration Malaysia confirming that the named person has been approved to enter Malaysia for the purposes of study.
Students from the countries which require a visa and have the Malaysian Embassy must obtain visa prior to their entry into Malaysia. Students must also produce the ‘Visa Approval Letter’ (VAL) upon entry before entering Malaysia.
Students from the countries which require a visa but do not have a Malaysian Embassy are permitted to enter without visa. Students must produce the ‘Visa Approval Letter’ (VAL) upon entry. Students from the countries which do not require a visa to enter Malaysia may proceed to enter by producing the ‘Visa Approval Letter’ (VAL) upon arrival.
2. How do I apply for a visa?
In order to get VDR with Reference of Student Pass, students must apply the Visa Approval Letter (VAL) at the International Office upon receiving the offer letter from UMP. You are required to visit the nearest Malaysian Embassy/Mission in your home country along with your offer letter from the Malaysian educational institution, the Visa Approval Letter issued by the Immigration Department of Malaysia and all other relevant documents and/forms duly completed and payment as required by the Malaysian Embassy/Mission for the application of an entry visa.

Once your application is approved, you will receive an email of approval by IPS.
5. Can I take pre-sessional English Course?
Yes, students with IELTS Band 5 and below and/or TOEFL Paper Based-Test (PBT) 500 or TOEFL Internet Based-Test (IBT) 60 OR TOEFL Computer Based-Test (CBT) 173 and below must attend the Pre-sessional English Course (PEC).
The PEC will be offered to the students that didn’t meet minimum entry requirements for English.
6. Which clinic can I do my pre-medical report in?
All students intending to study in Malaysia must submit a medical examination report as part of their visa application process. The list of official panel clinics outside Malaysia is available from Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS).
7. Can I get a job while studying?
International students are not legally allowed to hold a part-time job during their studies. However, we do offer several opportunities for you to acquire real-life job skills with attachments and internships with our business incubation units on campus.

8. What are the account details of the university?
To make payments to the University for any matter (eg.: processing fees), you must make sure that your name and IC or Student ID number is legibly written.

9. I have a tourist visa to Malaysia but I did not perform the journey. Will it affect my student visa later?
Once you have received your Visa Approval Letter (VAL), you need to cancel the tourist visa to enable you to apply for a Single Entry Visa in a Malaysian Embassy in your country.
10. Can I enter Malaysia while my VAL is still under process?
EMGS will process your VAL as long as you are outside Malaysia. If you enter Malaysia at any time during the processing period, EMGS will require that you provide them with an exit stamp on the passport page copy. They will not process your VAL until you have obtained an exit stamp on your passport.

12. How long is the validity of my Visa Approval Letter (VAL)?
The Visa Approval Letter is valid for six (6) months from the date of issue. If you have not arrived in Malaysia within this validity period, you will need to reapply and pay the visa fee again.
