UMP THREE MINUTE THESIS 2017 COMPETITION ENHANCES POSTGRADUATE STUDENTS IN PRESENTATION SKILLS
Institute of Postgraduate Studies (IPS) UMP has organized an event known as Three Minute Thesis (3MT) Competition which was held on 22 nd March 2017 at Auditorium Library Gambang Campus, UMP. This event is an annual event of IPS which has been successfully implemented since 2014. This year, a total of 8 participants from Technology category and 9 participants from Engineering category were joined for the title.
There were six honorable judges that judged the performance of participants. They were from different field of study and one of them is from industry. First judge was Profesor Dr. Md. Mustafizur Rahman, Dean of Research Engineering from Research and Innovation Department. Second judge is Associate Profesor Dr Gaanty Pragas A/L Maniam, director of Central Laboratory of Universiti Malaysia Pahang who is an expert in Technology field and Dr Chiam Kee Swan, a lecturer from Centre for Modern Languages and Human Sciences as well as UMP coach for previous national level. An expertise from industry was representing by Encik Mohd Ghazali Bin Maarof who has been involved and been active in industry since 1991. Last but not least is Dean and Deputy Dean of Institute of Postgraduate Studies, Professor Dato’ Dr Hasnah Harun and Professor Datin Dr. Mimi Sakinah Binti Abdul Munaim.
This year there have 17 best participants from 10 faculties to represent our university to the national level.
The competition began with the technology category followed by engineering category. For the
technology category, the first place goes to Geraldine Chan Sue Ching (PSM16002), second place
goes to Debashish Das (PCC15003) and third place is Basheer Mohammed Mohammed
Alhaimi (PPT15006). While for the engineering category, the first place has been embraced by
Jessinta A/P Sandanasamy (PKB15002), second place is Ashwin Charles Benedict (PKC15018) and third
place is Olusegun Abayomi Olalere (PKC15013). The consolation prizes were contested by each category;
cash prize RM500, a plaque and a certificate for the winner. For the first runner up and second runner
up, they will receive cash prize RM 300, and RM150, a plaque and a certificate respectively.
The winners for both categories will be trained by our experienced coaches, Dr Chiam Kee Swan and Madam Normala Samsudin and will be evaluated again by IPS before representing UMP in 3MT competition at the national level which is scheduled to be held in 18 th May 2017 at Universiti Sains Malaysia. The winners at the national level will then have a chance to participate in the Asia-Pacific Three Minute Thesis Competition which will be held in September 2017 in Australia.
